BUFFALO NAVAL PARK

Pack 99 visited the Buffalo Naval Park on Saturday, October 13th, through Sunday, October 14th. We stayed overnight on the USS Little Rock, a guided missile cruiser that used to be the flagship of the 2nd and 6th fleets. Much of the ship has been converted over so that it acts as a floating museum, including items from the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and many wartime weapons. The sleeping conditions remain as they were when the ship was in service, with bunks stacked three or four high. Peter and Brett from Den 4 helped serve food for the evening meal, and Matthew helped them serve breakfast. In the morning, we took self-guided tours all over the cruiser and the other two docked ships -- the USS Croaker, a Gato Class submarine, and the USS The Sullivans, a Fletcher Class destroyer named for five brothers who perished on the USS Juneau.
