CUB SCOUT ADVENTURE CAMP
J. Warren Cutler Scout Reservation
The Cub Scout Adventure Camp
is located near Naples, NY, where Cub Scouts and their parents can stay in themed villages for three days and two nights.
While they're there, they will have plenty of opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing, nature hikes, flag ceremonies, campfires,
and target sports (slingshots, rock throwing, archery, and BB gun shooting, depending on age),
as well as activities related to the themed village.
In addition to all the fun you and your son will have, your son will also complete many achievements,
complete many electives, and earn several belt loops, pins, and patches.
In July of 2008, we stayed at the High Seas,
Our boys had a blast, earning belt loops in fishing, swimming, archery, and wildlife conservation.
The fish weren't biting often, but when they did, the kids were catching some big fish.
Several boys participated in the "Polar Bear Swim", and it was funny to see how many people show up on the first day,
but only half as many show up on the second day.
We had a sponge war between the two village ships, then followed it up with another sponge war out on the lake.
As part of the High Seas program, the kids also got to go on a treasure hunt and make their own pirate bandanas.
Of all the villages we've been to, the High Seas has been our favorite.
The camp is divided into five distinct villages:
- The High Seas Adventure - This village has two large (land-based) boats, and activities are water-related.
- The Medieval Castle - This village is designed like a castle, and activities are geared around a knight theme.
- The Pioneer Fort - This village is designed like an 1800's fort, and the boys will learn what life as a settler was like.
- The Native American Village - Campers sleep in a longhouse, and the boys will learn about Native American crafts and customs.
- The Mountain Man Brigade - The boys will learn about life as a frontiersman, camping in tents and cooking some of their own meals.
Although the boys can sign up for any of the villages,
the Native American Village is geared toward 1st Year Webelos (i.e. - boys entering the 4th grade),
and the Mountain Man Brigade is geared toward 2nd Year Webelos (i.e. - boys entering the 5th grade).
The other three villages are not age-specific.
