INVITATION TO A BACKPACKING TRIP WITH THE SCOUTS FROM TROOP 349
The scouts of Troop 349 invite the Webelos of Pack 349 to participate and join in on a backpacking trip to Raven Rock State Park on Saturday and Sunday, September 21-22, 2002.
Raven Rock is a park near Lillington, North Carolina, on the banks of the Cape Fear River. Troop 349 has reserved one of the group sites that is on the edge of a nice grassy field where the boys can play frisbee, catch, or other games. The hike in is only about 2 miles, mostly down hill. After camp is set up, folk can hike (without their packs) back up to the Raven Rock, which is an interesting formation, and explore along the bank of the Cape Fear in its shadow.
To make it easy for the Webelos, the Troop will supply the food and will round up enough tents for everyone.
Webelos wanting to participate will need to bring the following items on the trip:
All of these items should be able to fit into a school book bag or day pack. Hopefully each boy will already have a suitable book bag that he uses for school. Of course if any of the boys do have actual back packs, that would be better, but it should not be necessary. For this hike, each boy should probably not be carrying more than 15 pounds.
Boys will also need to have a good pair of shoes. If they do not yet have a pair of hiking boots, a sturdy pair of tennis shoes is acceptable for this hike.
We will need a few fathers/mothers, if possible, to accompany the boys on the trip (and to carry tents and food). People who are going on the trip will need to let either Travis Payne or David Martin (call Ms. Joanie for their numbers) know at least by Monday, September 16th, such that arrangements can be made for adequate supplies and tents.
The Troop will leave from the church at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. It will return to the church by 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (although this return time is subject to some change).
