| NATIONAL: 1. Width overall shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches. 2. Length overall shall not exceed 7 inches. 3. Weight shall not exceed 5 (Avoirdupois) ounces. No loose materials of any kind are permitted in the car. The car may be hollowed out and built up to the maximum weight by addition of wood or metal only, provided it is securely built into the body. 4. Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited. AMENDMENT TO NATIONAL RULE #4; Add to prohibited features the word "spacers." 5. The car shall not ride on any type of springs. 6. Details such as steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, and interior detail are permissible as long as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width and weight specifications. 7. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices. 8. Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it can compete. The inspectors have the right to disqualify those cars that do not meet these specifications. The Metacomet District Pinewood Derby Committee has elected to exercise the prerogative of adding to the National B.S.A. Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Rules, those additional rules, which it has been deemed, appropriate. The sole purpose of the additions is to minimize special advantage and to maximize equal opportunity for all. ADDITIONS: 9. Wheel base (distance from center of front wheel/axle to center of rear wheel/axle on same side of car) shall not exceed either 4 1/4 inches or the center-to-center distance of the front axle slot to the rear axle slot (for current year kit wood block), which ever is greater. 10. Axle shafts must be of B.S.A. Pinewood Derby Kit type and must not have any material added to or removed from them. 11. Wheels must be of B.S.A. Pinewood Derby Kit type, can have the bore of the hub (hole in center) cleaned of any obstructions and the contact surface (around the circumference) smoothed but can not have the cross section reshaped in any way. 12. Beveling or tapering of the wheels is prohibited. 13. The forward most edge of a car must be wide enough to rest against the rear of the starting gate pin (in center of it's lane) or it will (not be allowed to race) be disqualified. 14. The Pinewood Derby is a competition for cars having no more or no less than 4 wheels, functioning in such a manner that the lane guide strip is maintained in a postition under the car body and between each side pair of such wheels. 15. The width of a car body shall not exceed the width of the B.S.A. Pinewood Derby Kit wood block except for the addition of B.S.A. Pinewood Derby Accessories. 16. Use of liquid lubricants of any kind is prohibited. 17. Parents are encouraged to help their cubs in the construction of their derby car, but are requested not to build the cars for them. NOTES: * Any car found not in conformance with these rules will be subject to immediate disqualification. *All rules, interpretations of and judgements related to, are the sole prerogative of the Metacomet District Pinewood Derby Committee and shall be final.
