| A boy's first step after registering as a Cub Scout, regardless of his age, is to pass the Bobcat requirements: * Learn and say the Cub Scout Promise * Say and explain the Law of the Pack * Explain the meaning of the word Webelos * Show and explain the Cub Scout sign and handshake * Say the Cub Scout motto and give the salute; explain both * With your parent or guardian, do the activities in How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide When a boy has learned these things, his parent approves his work and signs his book. He is then eligible to receive his Bobcat badge at a pack ceremony including his parent. He then begins working on the rank for his grade or age. |

The blue stands for truth and spirituality, steadfast loyalty, and the sky above. The gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness. Together, they symbolize what Cub Scouting is all about. |
