Antagonists: Jihad, mercenaries

Mission Log:

When Entropy was late for the weekly meeting, the Guardians tried to contact him. Entropy responded on the comdot system that he would be unable to attend as there was an emergency in progress. The Guardians voluntered to help.

Entropy briefed the Guardians on the situation. An Iraqi assassin, called Jihad, had sucessfully entered the United States. It was believed that he planned retaliation for the bombing strikes on Iraq. Jihad believed in symbolism, so Intelligence thought he would strike on the 5th of February, a day celebrated in Iraq for the ancient unification of desert tribes by fakeguy.

Shadow Knight researched fakeguy, but came up with no useful information. The Guardians were assigned the region of Fall's Church? They plotted out the area for likely targets. The Guardians split into three teams. The first was Shadow Knight and Warp. The second was Hematite and Portal. The last team was Crocodile, Lapke, and Cypher. They travelled in the Crocpot.

Team one stayed at a park, where a local politician had a rally. They caught a pickpocket, but otherwise had an uneventful day. Team two broke up a bank robbery, capturing three criminals. When team two started to respond to a report of a mob at a nearby mall, however, team one asked for the duty.

The riot was centered around the food court. Crocodile, Lapke, and Cypher surveyed the situation. The mob had no dicernable goal besides destruction. Their superpowers did not help them against a civilian target. Crocodile was very tired for reasons currently unknown. That left the two rookies to try and solve the problem.

Cypher decided to contain the problem by cutting off reinforcements from the mall with his forcefield. He also used his gravity powers to lift one of the most active troublemakers in the food court. However, more people from within the mall gathered at the forcefield barrier, and Cypher began to sweat. Lapke then entered the fray, trying to calm the people down. He sensed resistance from beyond the barrier and focused on waves of hatred and anger pouring from one individual. Only now did the Guardians ask about Jihad's paranormal abilities, finding out he was known for stirring up emotions

Team three called for backup. Entropy called in that Intel felt that the riot would be a perfect opportunity to bomb hundreds of civilians. Hematite flew with great speed to reach the scene. Meanwhile, Lapke countered Jihad's power, forcing Jihad to flee. As the people calmed down, Cypher and Crocodile started to move the crowd outside. It was clear, however, that they could not save everyone, as many were disoriented.

Hematite blasted through the skylight and searched for the bomb. He found it as it's defenders teleported away. Seeing that the countdown was nearing zero, he ripped the entire mechanism plus assorted floor and flew away. He then flung the bomb into orbit, where it exploded. Meanwhile, Lapke was astrally pursuing the speedy Jihad. Jihad was unable to lose Lapke, but unfortunately, before reinforcements could arrive, Jihad met his confederates, who teleported him away. Descriptions of Jihad and the mercenaries were posted.

Followup:

The mercenaries evaded capture, but Jihad was unable to flee the country. Chess nabbed him at JFK airport, ending the terrorist threat. The Guardians were commended for their help in the matter.

Conclusions:

The New Guardians did rather well in this battle. They showed good initiative and problem solving skills. I am worried about Crocodile, though. He hasn't seemed himself recently. I am advising a medical checkup (and maybe a drug test-he spends a lot of time in the Crocpot).
