In addition to shortlines, I've also had an attraction to logging railroads. Though their era is largely over, there are still a select few log haulers remaining to be photographed. One of the most prominent in the west is Simpson Timber Co.'s operation in Shelton, WA on the Olympic Peninsula. When I visited on spring break during my second year in college, things were going strong. We caught this log train with dynamic brake-equipped SW's 1200 and 1201 as it sat outside the Shelton mill area to wait for a BN local that was working the mainline in front of the mill. by Jody Moore.
