During a recent family get-together in Rock Springs, WY., I snuck off to get a look at the UP action on the former transcontinental line. A hard snow had hit on New Years' eve, and the temperature hadn't climbed above 28 since, so the snow still looked fresh. Traffic was surprisingly light, but I felt fortunate as I caught a heavy drag freight grinding its way uphill out of Green River and into Peru, WY. behind new EMD SD-75M 4514, an SD90-43MAC, and another SD-75M.
