FEAST

Table layout

paper plates, bowls and cups

plastic utensils

bread, butter, sugar, milk, flowers, crackers, fruit and other suitable items.

Hall personnel required

6 persons

2 Sargent at Arms

Head Ushers greet all and direct Table Ushers for seating guests

Table Ushers answer Head Usher when he calls them and holds up his hand for guest

Table Ushers watch tables during feast, calls Servers when needed to replenish food

Head Server looks after floor, the vats of stew/food, directs Servers (young persons)

Head Cook directs Cook-workers, waits for Head Server’s okay, directs Cook-workers to be careful and where to bring food (cook-workers also work with Head Server)

Entry

Head Usher questions each guest as to name, clan or from what native group. Before Head Usher releases Public, he calls out to appropriate Table Usher, who has to respond and hold up hand, then Head Usher tells Public to go to that Table Usher. The he announces that person(s) info to hall, be he turns to next Public. Two Sargent-at-Arms are at his side who will follow Head Usher’s directions and keep order of children and Public. Will try to announce everyone and has to work quickly.

Seating arrangement must allow for a lot of room for steaming hot Stew Vats and could rest on sturdy 2-foot high table for serving ease. MC has to ask for silence and ask for individual to "Give Blessing and Prayers" before food is brought out. Do so just before food is ready.

Head Cook directs Cook Workers on food preparation. Must keep Hot and cold drinks flowing also, throughout the festivities.

When ready for Vats, Head Cook lets Head Server know and short tables are place before Vats are carried out. Other persons must keep way clear and be ready to help. Vats in place, the Head Server directs operation.

Servers act under Head Server directions and must work with any Table Usher who watches table needs. Table Usher will also point out who needs to be served yet, or who needs more.

Cleanup can begin as soon as Public has their fill, or soon before.

Young Volunteers move to end of table and ask for garbage to be handed to them. This group also works under Table Usher. The Table Ushers relax after most of cleanup and before Speeches or planned Ceremonies begin. Also, the Head Usher can sit down and allow Table Ushers to carry on looking after feast needs. Of course, final cleanup is after feast.

Table Ushers must be on hand for Elders bathroom needs, he can ask young persons to help by walking Elders to bathroom or other chores as needed, or up for speeches.

MC/has certain tag on lapel of suit

Temporarily halts Head Usher so he can Officially Welcome Hoy Tee Toy Tees who arrive at a time all agree upon. Public will be instructed by MC to stand to honour the Hoy Tee Toy Tees.

Follows Agenda laid out for him by Pacific Connections group.

Pacific Connections Group Agenda
(workload to be completed before October 2001)

Create a Non-Profit Society with name and adopted mission statement, a logo.

Fund raising Ideas

Regular Meetings to keep track of progress and goals reached. Newsletter items.

Find or settle on appropriate size of building

Special invites to Hoy Tee Toy Tees with group’s logo

Notices with logo, about feast, who is invited, reason why feast, etc...

Children control by whom; MC will spell this out

MC identifies Hall Personnel and respective roles, which wear certain tags

MC identifies Group who must wear cetain tags

Should have Recorder of Videos or cassettes

Group calls in #8 & #10, for a meeting to tell them their roles

Group must finalize seating arrangements

Group must finalize activities agenda order as it happens over the evening

Group must consult with Area Natives on what is good to use and what should not happen. Seating order and arrangements.

Suggests Hoy Tee Toy Tees take place of honour in middle of hall, as seating radiates outwards, place others in their levels of importance.
