A Rather Complete Index to GREYHAWK(R) Material in TSR Products
Compiled by Roger E. Moore, TSR, Inc., for everyone's amusement

Here are all the specific GREYHAWK(R) setting references that I can
find in TSR's materials, posted here for the enjoyment of all.
Gamers who enjoy this setting may consult this listing to check the
completeness of their collections. (Let me know if I missed
anything!) The TSR product number is usually appended to the
product name for clarity of reference.

Some modules said to be GH-based or GH-compatible may require more
work than usual to bring them into line with recent "post-war"
releases such as the <From the Ashes> boxed set. I've skipped
mention of products and articles having only passing reference to
GH, staying with those that added something concrete to the overall
campaign.

It may be of interest to long-time GREYHAWK campaign fans to
compare the various versions of the world as it has been developed
over the years by various authors. In particular, examine the
visions of Oerth as depicted in Gary Gygax's 1976-7 "Gnome Cache,"
Andre Norton's 1978 <Quag Keep>, the 1983 WORLD OF GREYHAWK(R)
boxed set, Gygax's Gord stories, and <From the Ashes>; look for
mention of places like Blackmoor, Nyrond, the Great Kingdom, etc.
Amusing Side Note: Dunstan, the main character in "Gnome Cache,"
apparently reappears as an early king of Nyrond in the 1983 boxed
set, despite the fact that he kills a Nyrondese soldier in "Gnome
Cache."

Abbreviations: EGG: E. Gary Gygax ("Gnome Cache" was written under
the pseudonym "Garrison Ernst"); FTSS: "From the Sorcerer's Scroll"
(Gary Gygax's regular column in DRAGON(R) Magazine); GH: GREYHAWK
campaign (abbreviation).

Notes: #9178 I9 Day of Al-Akbar concerns two artifacts found in GH,
as per the 1st Edition DMG, but these are removed from that
setting. #9201 I12 Egg of the Phoenix was based directly on the GH
modules R1-4, but when re-edited excluded all mention of GH. The
entire R-series was set in Frank Mentzer's "Aquaria" ("Aquaeridian"
or "Aqua-Oeridian") campaign, which is said to take place in GH
(see R4 "Doc's Island," page 4).

note that this setting faithfully follows the placement of Oerth at
the center of its "universe," as noted on page 3 of "A Guide to the
WORLD OF GREYHAWK Setting," in the 1983 boxed set)
9375: RQ3 From the Shadows (Azalin the lich, of Ravenloft, was
originally from GH)

Note: Other SPELLJAMMER(R) campaign references to GH are likely,

(#5)

reusing old adventures, with focus on <The Temple of Elemental
Evil>)

Notes: Brief mention of GH appears in a number of letters from
readers in "Letters" and "Forum" in various issues. Assorted GH
questions were answered in various "Sage Advice" columns (e.g.,
#194, page 53, and #200, page 106). In issue #131, the article
entitled "To the Center of the Oerth" is not specifically about GH;
it concerns random-die-roll tables for generating caverns. A great
many articles offering new monsters, magical items, NPCs, and so
forth could easily be adapted into GH.

DUNGEON(R) Adventures (issue/page)

6/26: "House of the Brothers" (GH module)
10/3: "The Shrine of Ilsidahur" (GH-compatible module)
15/49: "The Elephants' Graveyard" (GH-compatible module)
19/4: "By the Wayside" (GH module)
22/13: "The Leopard Men" (GH-compatible module)
30/22: "Ghazal" (GH module)
31/76: Corrections to "Ghazal"
32/4: Corrections to "Ghazal"
32/60: "Ghost Dance" (GH module)
33/6: "That Island Charm" (GH-compatible module)
34/22: "Rogue" (GH-compatible module)
35/8: "Twilight's Last Gleaming" (GH-compatible module)
39/24: "Last of the Iron House" (GH-compatible module)
41/46: "Hopeful Dawn" (GH module)
42/32: "Izek's Slumber" (GH module)
46/50: "Iron Orb of the Duergar" (GH-compatible module)

Notes: A number of modules here having an African theme were meant
to expand Hepmonland or the Amedio Jungle in GH (#15, 22, 34); the
author, David Howery, elaborates on this setting in DRAGON issue
#189 (see above). "Out of the Ashes" (issue #17) uses the Vecna
legend but is not set in GH. Vecna was not specifically tied to GH
early in the evolution of the AD&D(R) and D&D(R) games, and so was
adopted into many campaigns. "The Draven's Deep Menace" (issue #40)
is said to be GH-compatible but was written for the DRAGONLANCE(R)
campaign. A great many other adventures in this magazine could be
set in GH with a minimum of conversion work.

POLYHEDRON(R) Newszine (issue/page)

1/4: "RPGA Interview with E. Gary Gygax" (EGG; details on GH)
2/4: "RPGA Interview with E. Gary Gygax" (EGG; details on GH)
21/9: "Why Gargoyles Don't Have Wings..." (EGG; Oerth and its
parallel worlds)
23/8-11: "The Lighter Side of Encounters" (Skip Williams, April
1984)
29/6-8: "The Lighter Side of Encounters II" (Skip Williams, April
1985)
58/12: "The Legacy" (module set in GH)
92/12: "River Rats" (module set in GH)

Notes: Skip's two articles in issue #23 and #29 describe events
taking place in Frank Mentzer's AD&D(R) Aquaria campaign, which was
noted earlier as taking place in the WORLD OF GREYHAWK(R) setting.
"The 384th Incarnation of Bigby's Tomb" (issue #20) is not really
a GREYHAWK module; the Bigby described therein is not the one from
that campaign. (However, the Bigby shown on the module's first page
was deliberately drawn to resemble Gary Gygax!) Some of the other
adventures detailed in this newszine could be set in GH with only
a little work.

*** Miscellaneous TSR Materials ***

"The Dungeon Hobby Shop" (undated catalog, early 1980s): This
provides a listing of all specific WORLD OF GREYHAWK miniatures
manufactured by Minifigs ("Mini Figs"). Catalog was sent out for
promotional and sales purposes.

TSR trading cards: I have no idea how many of these have GH things
in them. Some GH wizards and artifacts certainly appear in the
various sets (including Mordenkainen and the Circle of Eight).

<Necropolis> (Dangerous Journeys system), page 4: Gygax tells how
GH evolved, details the origin of GH ideas.

*** Miscellaneous Non-TSR Materials ***

<Quag Keep>, by Andre Norton (DAW Books): A portion of this novel
was published in DRAGON(R) issue #12. This qualifies as the
earliest novel set in GH, but not the earliest work of fiction set
there (see references to EGG's "Gnome Cache" in DRAGON Magazine).

<Sea of Death>, <City of Hawks>, <Knight Errant>, <Dance of
Demons>, all by Gary Gygax (New Infinities): These works are
derivative of the WORLD OF GREYHAWK setting and contain information
on and maps of that world. They continue Gord's adventures after
Gygax's two TSR GREYHAWK novels, and include maps of the Flanaess
and the original City of Greyhawk from Gygax's home campaign.
Certain differences exist between this series and the TSR-published
GREYHAWK materials in place names and other details.

Unpublished Materials

This is a list of potential GH products that were mentioned in
various TSR publications but were never published. Material from
the cancelled module <Ivid the Undying> did see print in DRAGON(R)
Magazine.

Abbreviations: EGG: E. Gary Gygax ("Gnome Cache" was written under
the pseudonym "Garrison Ernst"); FTSS: "From the Sorcerer's Scroll"
(Gary Gygax's regular column in DRAGON(R) Magazine); GH: GREYHAWK
campaign (abbreviation); DXX/xx: DRAGON issue XX, page xx.

---- "Tower of Zaeen" (Rob Kuntz module containing a jester,
FTSS/EGG: see D65/9)
---- "Maze of Xaene" (EGG, R. Kuntz, Eric Shook module, two parts,
FTSS/EGG: see D71/9. This module and the above one are probably the
same product. Xaene is an evil NPC wizard from GH, probably one
created or run by R. Kuntz; see mention of same in FTSS/EGG: see
D59/24.)
---- "City of Greyhawk" (EGG's original version, with help from R.
and Terry Kuntz and E. Shook; see <Saga of Old City> for map and
details; see FTSS/EGG in D35/12, D37/10, D55/17)
---- "Dungeons of Castle Greyhawk" (EGG's original version, with
50+ levels, presented as a series; EX1 and EX2 were derived from
this campaign; see D35/12, D37/10)
---- "Greyhawk Castle and Dungeons" (same as above, but with R.
Kuntz; see D55/17)
---- "Shadowland" (GH adventure into Plane of Shadow, EGG and Skip
Williams; see D37/10)
---- Module on elemental planes of GH (EGG with Steve Marsh; see
D35/12)
---- "Armies of Greyhawk" (EGG and Steve Carpenter of Minifigs,
mass combat rules for GH using GH figures once produced by
Minifigs; see D35/12, D41/28)
---- Small-scale, high-detail maps of Flanaess, with major NPCs and
encounters, done as a series (EGG with E. Shook, R. and T. Kuntz;
see D55/17)
---- "Wasp Nest: The City State of Stoink" (EGG; see D59/6)
---- "Old original" GH campaign world, updated (EGG; see POLYHEDRON
issue #2, page 4)
9184 WG7 Shadowlords (referenced in 1986 Mail Order catalog, page
7; probably same as "Shadowland," above). Do not confuse this
product with D&D module X11 <Saga of the Shadow Lord>, by Stephen
Bourne. The Plane of Shadow has now been described in great detail
in several article and modules in the AD&D(R) game system.
9399: <Ivid the Undying> (cancelled, given to DRAGON Magazine,
portions printed in issues #204, 206, and 208)
