Part 3

Andie fidgeted in her seat waiting for the doctor to return. It’s worse than last time, she thought to herself, the door opened again, and Dr Lindley walked in. Dr Lindley may have been one of her closest friends during high school, but after her marriage fallout with Pacey, she just turned against all her old friends, something she thought she could handle for the rest of her life, but her situation was making if difficult to keep.

“Andie, how are you doing this morning?” Jen asked, looking down at her hands that were still fidgeting in her lap.

“Just get straight to the point Jen, I have places to be!” Andie said sharply, looking up at Jen, “Things to do!”

“Whatever you want Andie ...... it’s spread!” Jen felt awful telling her this, but it was part of her job.

“Where?” Andie face didn’t change at all, still that cold expression, she had on this morning when she walked in the door.

“In the breast!”

“I thought we got it all last time?” Andie voice quivered at bit as she spoke now.

“So did I, but that was a year ago Andie, things can happen!” Jen tried to calm Andie down, but she only glared back.

“How can we beat it then?” Andie’s question, Jen had faced everyday, yet the outcomes were very different.

“Chemotherapy!” Jen tried not to look to upset when she said it for Andie’s sake, but Jen couldn’t believe this was happen to her.

“Is that really necessary?” Andie’s question wasn’t harsh but the way she said you would of thought it was.

“It’s the next step!”

“You’re the expert at this so, ok let’s do it!”

“Great, well we can start it as soon as end of the week, you can make an appointment on your way out!” Jen stood and shook Andie’s hand, the way she did everyone.

“Thanks!” Andie mumbled as she headed to the door.

“Andie you really should tell Pacey about this!” Jen suggested. Andie turned to Jen her eyes were watering.

“I’ll think about it Jen!” Andie said, and then closed the door behind her. Andie swallowed the lump in her throat, looking around the waiting room. It made her feel ill at the thought she was like the rest of the people in that room, waiting for the other shoe to drop. Feeling tears start to fall she quickly moved towards the exit, for fear of being watched upon.
