MEET THE CANDIDATES FORUM SLATED TO ADDRESS ISSUES OF
BILINGUAL EDUCATION IN PALO ALTO SCHOOLS

PALO ALTO, Calif. - October 13, 2003. - Palo Alto School Board Candidates will field questions about language immersion at a forum on Monday evening, October 20 at the Palo Alto Family YMCA, 3412
Ross Rd in Palo Alto from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by PACE (Palo Alto Chinese Education), the Organization of Chinese Americans - Silicon Valley chapter (OCA-SV), and the Palo Alto Family YMCA. All
three sponsoring organizations are strictly nonpartisan.

The purpose of the forum is to encourage voters to learn more about the candidates and their views on language immersion programs in the Palo Alto schools.

Editors from local news outlets are encouraged to attend and ask questions. This open forum will be moderated by Craig Mann, East Side Union High School District School Board Member, San Jose.

"In the global economy success requires fluency with more than one language. Best-practice tells us that children who study second languages in the primary grades can become fluent efficiently," noted PACE founder Grace Mah. "We have arranged this forum to discuss this important issue with the people who will shape education policy in Palo Alto."
