Matthew 7:7-11 -- "Ask and it shall be given unto
you..."
As Christians, we know God as our Father and we
can always come to Him in prayer with the confidence
that He will answer our requests IF they are in line
with His will. But if we do not get our requests
instantaneously, does that mean it isn't God's will
and we quit? There are rare times that God's answers
are quick. When I was attending a J.V. basketball
game between two Christian schools, one of the girls I
knew was injured in the game and went to a nearby
hospital for an x-ray to determine if any bones were
broken. She was anxious to get x-rayed quickly, and
was even pacing the floor. I offered to pray with
Amber S. and her family. In the prayer, I asked that
if the Lord pleased, maybe Amber's case could get some
attention a little sooner. As I was saying these
words, a nurse called out, "Amber S...." I declared
with delight, "God answers prayer." Yes, there are
times that God answers fast.
But there are other times that we may pray for
something for years before we see the results of our
petitions. I prayed for my brother's salvation for 19
years, and finally received the joyous news in 1988
that he had turned his life over to Jesus. In this
case, I knew that it was God's will to ask, and so I
kept on asking until God answered. If it is God's
will, then the answer will eventually come if we
faithfully ask, seek, and knock as Jesus said.
