Prelude
Many events and occurrences had taken place in the Battle of Gettysburg that have captured my interest and imagination unlike no other topic of history or war for that matter.  However, one event that took place has intriqueded me day by day, and has become a part of my everyday life.  This happens to be the Color Episode of the One Hundred and Forty-Ninth Pennsylvania Volunteers.  Its apparent that nobody quite really knew what happened to the Colors of that regiment.  For those who are new to studying up on the battle, they will most likely come across one or two similar accounts on what happened that afternoon on the McPhersons Farm.

However, further research in this subject has proven to be a very confusing task to figure out just what happened between the boys of the 149th Pa Color Guard, and the confederate skirmish party composed of various confederate regiments.

As I pursued the matter further and deeper into several different accounts and reports written by those who actually witnessed the struggle, or atleast said they did, ive found that nearly every account accessible conflicts with each other.

Who is really creditable in the capture of the 149th Pennsylvanias colors?  Certainly the boys from Brigadier General Joseph R. Davis Brigade believe that a Sergeant from the 42nd Mississippi was the one.  Or could it be possible that a young boy from Colonel John Brockenbroughs Virginians was the captor of one of the 149ths Colors?  The most questionable of them all, were the 149ths Colors recaptured by their sister regiment, the 150th Pennsylvania Volunteers?

In this volume, you will find several different sources compared to others.  You will find reports and accounts thoroughly analyzed to which every small detail will be justified.
