| Letter of Cpl. Franklin W. Lehman Sidney, Illinois, Sept. 29th, 1881 J. B. Bachelder Dear Comrade: I received your letter some time ago, I have been sick nearly all summer and when I got your letter I had the ague. I think you know how a fellow feels when he shakes. About the colors guard, I will name them according to rank. Sergt. H. Brehm 1st Cor. F. W. Lehman 2nd Cor. G. Hammel 3rd Cor. H. Spayd 4th Cor. J. Friddell There is one think about which I would like to have looked up, that is about H.Brehm. I heard a lecture in Philadelphia where a man said the sergt of 150th Pa. had a hand to hand fight with Confederates. I will say that H. Brehm had a man down when another took his musket and beat him over the back, for I saw it, saw him turn over, then he lifted himself up on elbow. Motioned at one of them with his fist, that is about all I saw, and is about what the man said in Philadelphia; but he had the 150th Pa. instead of the 149th. I was wounded along the road near where those two steers were fighting in the morning.... F.W.Lehman |
