The masked men finish restraining Kimberly and
take her into their truck. She cries through the
duct tape placed over her mouth.
Palmer enters the hotel's banquet room to a
rousing ovation from his supporters. He gives the
partygoers words of inspiration for their latest
campaign victory.
From Drazen's red van, Jack calls Nina at CTU.
He orders her to get Alexis Drazen on the line so
Victor can confirm that he is alive. From his
hospital bed, Alexis admits failure to his father.
Victor tells his son that since they are both alive,
he has not failed. Victor tells the CTU people
listening to the call that he will trade the life of
Jack for that of Alexis. Mason speaks up,
informing Victor that he is not authorized to make
such a trade. Victor says that when he calls back,
Mason had better have an answer.
During Palmer's speech, Sherry whispers to
Patty that she can not travel with her husband to
Dallas the next day because of a prior
commitment. Although Patty offers to change the
schedule, Sherry says that she could use a few
days apart from Palmer. She tells Patty to keep
him company.
Mason informs Nina that CTU Director Chapelle
will not allow them to make a trade for Jack. Any
dealing with Victor Drazen would acknowledge
that he is still alive and be an embarrassment for
the government. Nina does not want to believe
that Jack is expendable, and she wonders why
they don't try to grab Victor while he is still out in
the open. Nina breaks the news to Teri that the
government won't make a trade for Jack.
Andre and Victor bring Jack to the basement of a
Slavic restaurant to hide. Victor warmly greets a
man named Nikola and his daughter, Mila. Nikola
has a meal and clothes waiting for Victor.
Mason is battling with his superiors to save Jack
when Teri interrupts him. She demands to know
what he is doing about the situation. After getting
no answer from him, Teri then begs Nina for
help. Nina claims to be reaching out to someone
who can possibly come to Jack's aid. Since what
she is doing is not formal procedure, she can not
talk about it. Nina asks Teri to trust her.
Palmer is talking to his supporters at the party
when an urgent call comes for him. It is Nina, and
she informs him that Victor is alive and holding
Jack as hostage. Palmer promises to make a few
phone calls to rectify the situation.
Tony is alerted that Kimberly has been taken
from the police squad car. He is about to tell Nina
the news when Teri approaches. Tony remains
silent until she leaves. He informs Nina, and
questions whether she will tell Teri.
Palmer calls Mason and demands him to reverse
his orders on the trade for Jack. Mason is
reluctant because this does not fall under the
Senate's purview. He will be reprimanded for
going against the CTU. Palmer assures him that
when he does become President, he will instate
Mason to a high position of power. Mason
questions what will happen if Palmer does not
get elected. "That's not going to happen,"
Palmer answers.
As Mila caters to Victor, Jack watches closely.
He manages to knock down a guard and grab a
knife. Jack then holds the knife to Mila's throat
and orders the other men to drop their weapons.
Everyone but Victor obliges. Victor shoots Mila in
the head, killing her. The guards apprehend
Jack.
Andre is furious about things spiraling out of
control, and he calls Mason again. Mason agrees
to the trade, and Andre instructs him to bring
Alexis to an address on Grand Avenue. Alexis is
to be placed inside a green SUV there. Tony
locates the address as a repair garage. Mason
goes to the hospital to claim Alexis for the trade.
The tension between Sherry and Palmer
increases when Sherry chastises him for
stepping away from his party to make phone
calls. Sherry leaves to greet a campaign
supporter, and Palmer approaches Patty. He tells
her that she looks beautiful, and asks about
upcoming events. Patty informs him that she has
prepared possible questions that may arise
dealing with Keith. Palmer, who wants to go over
them, arranges to meet her upstairs in five
minutes.
Nikola grieves over the body of his daughter, as
Victor consoles him. Suddenly, Nikola turns his
anger on Victor. Without flinching, Victor shoots
Nikola. Kim is dragged in and Jack calls out to
her. A guard throws a hood over Jack's face and
carries him up the stairs. Kim is left in the
basement with the dead bodies.
Teri is relieved to learn that a trade will be made
for Jack. When she asks to speak to Kim in the
patrol car, Nina tells her that she will look into it.
Teri thanks Nina for being honest with her about
everything that's been going on. After leaving
Teri, Nina approaches Tony. She admits that she
couldn't tell the truth to Teri, and wonders aloud
whether she is too soft for the job. Tony
reassures Nina that she is good at what she
does.
In the van, Jack begs for his daughter's life. He
makes an appeal to Andre that if they kill any
more innocent people, it will be harder for them
to leave the country alive. Both Victor and Andre
tell Jack to be quiet.
In the hotel suite, Palmer and Patty go over the
facts about Carl and the financiers' unorthodox
actions. Patty questions whether Palmer has had
any past indiscretions. Palmer smiles, and asks if
Patty is flirting with him. She responds yes.
Palmer jumps back into business mode, and they
go back to the party.
The Drazen van pulls up to a field with an oil rig.
Andre tethers Jack to a post, warning him that if
Alexis is not delivered, he will die. There are
sniper rifles being aimed at him at Andre's
command. Andre puts an untraceable cell phone
into Jack's pocket, and he leaves in the van. Jack
is left alone, unsure what to do next.
Back at the campaign party, Sherry pulls Patty
aside and asks if she went upstairs with Palmer.
Patty tells her that she did what she told her to
do, but that she feels uncomfortable deceiving
Palmer. Sherry assures her that this is what
Palmer needs right now, and her actions are for
the good of the campaign. Patty is hesitant
because it may lead to other things. Sherry tells
her that they will deal with that when the time
comes.
Mason brings Alexis Drazen in an ambulance to
the arranged meeting place. They roll Alexis'
gurney to the waiting green SUV. A guard named
Harris alerts Andre over a phone that Alexis is in
worse shape than they thought. Mason demands
that Jack be turned over as well. Harris informs
him that once they are satisfied that they are not
being followed, they will provide Jack's location.
Mason asks about Kimberly, but Harris is only
concerned with Jack. Mason allows the green
SUV to leave. He radios Nina, and she tells him
that she has the SUV tracked.
After he pulls away, Harris waves a signal
detector over Alexis' body and produces a
tracking device on the hospital wristband. Harris
removes it and smashes it on the ground. Nina
realizes that her trace is destroyed.
Andre gives the signal to his sharpshooters to
release Jack. At the oil rig, a shot rings out from
an undisclosed location. The restraint is blown
off, freeing Jack. The cell phone in his pocket
rings. Andre tells Jack that if he wants to see
Kimberly alive, he should go to a nearby-parked
car and drive toward Century City. Jack is
ordered to talk to no one, and he obeys the
command. |
