Review – VAMPit ‘You Don’t Know Me’

independent CD EP

Looking at the cover to this CD, one would immediately assume VAMPit to be another boy-band! Knowing the demography of the place they have their base adds to this misconception, but anything like this is blown out the door after a listen or two to their independent “You Don’t Know Me” EP.

“You Don’t Know Me” appears to be the vehicle for VC Ilagan which ventures through adult-pop, funk-rock and a nouveau-jazz/funk fusion. While I prefer to avoid adult-pop and nouveau-jazz I found myself hitting the ‘continuous play’ option for this player so that I could get the full effect of the disc, and quite enjoyed it – the production and instrumentation is of quite a high standard and the lyrics didn’t just slip onto the page as they might with most writers in these genres. Personal highlights included the title and Colour Blue and overall any track from this CD could fit on most radio stations.
