vocal track and that’s what greets you as the opening to Noel Evans’s new
independent album “Blue Water Mine”.
Noel spent more than 10 years without touching a guitar yet within 18 months he has created two albums that show those of is who are still pining for the ‘old days’ that you can leave the music behind but you can never lose it. “Blue Water Mine” is a lot like the last effort “Dream Forever” but Noel has this time enlisted a number of musician friends, including Mark (ACDC) Evans (Relation? Co-incidence?) on bass guitar for Already Down and To Be Free.
I was a little disappointed by the drum tracks – a human touch would have added so much to what is otherwise a really good album. And a little less calypso-oriented tracks could be considered as well. The vocal style that compares so well to David Bowie, Neil Young, with hints of other names nominated herein and otherwise, is easy to listen to and would add ambience to a comfortable Sunday afternoon beer garden.
