Review - Miles From Nowhere
"Two With You" Independent EP
Miles
from Nowhere are a Brisbane based 4-piece acoustic pop act with exceptional
harmonies and a 'comical twist'. Their debut EP "Two With You", presented to the world in 1997, showcases
not only the individual abilities as musicians, singers and songwriters, but
the energy and commitment of the band as a collective as well.
Two With You opens the account with a
love-gone-wrong song which combines the elements of most Australian artists in
this field (TOSAW, The Jaynes, Gentle Persuasion, etc)
and the strong acoustic-bass emphasis of Violent
Femmes. Tide In The Sky
follows with a calming effect and America Horse With No Name discords and
harmonies. It's Time creates a
country/folk feel, introducing Anne Fanning on violin/fiddle and
retaining the Violent
Femmes approach of the opening track. Brain In His Pants rounds the record off with the promised
'comic twist', a more rocky approach, and some sure-to-be-classic lines like
"…your knight in shining armour is more concerned with his lance".
I'm sure that if the subject were actually named legal action would surely have
been the outcome!
MFN are as good live as they
are on this, their debut release. Playing around Brisbane often enough, you
would have few excuses not to check them out, but "Two With You" is reason enough «««««
