Review - Lynda Wehipeihana "Thinking About You"

single on My Label through Hot Records/Didgeridoo

From the descending jazz discords that are the introduction to “Thinking About You” we are immediately brought back to the reality of a world that has Lynda Wehipeihana music in it. Whilst there was a release earlier this year of quite a different single “Reconciliation,” coinciding with the political/racial mood of the time, this is the Lynda to whom we were introduced through “Larger Than Life” a little while ago.

How many of us have been in the situation described in this song: 4a.m, can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t think of anything or anyone else, trying to take your mind off but failing... Luckily Lynda is able to persuade her intended that his feelings can be sated instead of denied (have you ever tried to argue with a love-struck woman?!) with the directive “Just get your head together and get over here.”

These emotions are encapsulated in the lyrics for “Thinking About You” as Lynda has so aptly demonstrated in her past live and recorded outings. The recording and production of the song add to its stylish and seductive catchiness that has already been added to radio and music video programs across the country.

All of this, with a new deal between My Label and Hot Records/Didgeridoo (Ed Kuepper, Eva Cassidy) has taken Lynda from suburban to national success. What remains now is for the new album to be released, hopefully full of more of Lynda’s magic…
