Review - The Early Hours
“Evölution”
album on Rocket through
Phantom Music
The Early Hours, according to one reviewer,
have cornered the art of mimicry! That said, they’ve always credited the garage
sound of the 60s for their sound, but with two years between albums and touring
around the country with high profile supports, something is happening right!
The new album, “Evölution”, sees another step in their musical...err...evolution?!
Listening to the previous release (“10
Top Hits” on Play It Loud through Spinning Top) back to back with this one
shows that while some things haven’t changed, many have! There’s the songs
about girls, love at various stages and that undying 60s Rickenbacker
jingle. But now there’s the better production qualities (especially the
bringing forth of the vocals and the Beatles/Byrds
influences in I Wonder If You’ll ever Be
Mine for one) bringing this 60s-based quartet into the 90s
I’ve watched these guys grow from a three-piece
suburban-Perth garage outfit and am more than impressed by “Evölution” HHHH
