Review – Fatigue (fat-eeg!) “Does anyone want anything up the shops?”
With a title “Does anyone want anything up
the shops?”, and cover-art depicting a pit-crew fitting racing fats to a
shopping trolley, you sorta know what to expect from Fatigue (fat-eeg!)’s new album on Pacemaker through Oracle Records. And
20 tracks, chiming in at between 1:05 and 2:56, further cement the expectation.
Fatigue (fat-eeg!) is a 4-5pc punkish outfit from “sumwair in the soufwest of sinney” (trans: somewhere in the South West of Sydney).
Initial aural impressions left me with the idea that, in the current batch of
reviews, I would not like this one. But a closer listen & a look at the vids on the CD for Disney and Keys changed all that for the better. Basically you have your late Frenzal Rhomb with early production
techniques, Cokehead Hipsters (adding to the
already fervent fan base in Japan), Bodyjar
and Parkside Killers (especially in the
hard core ‘mofo ho’ tracks) in styles that include
your plain everyday punk, nouveau punk, stoner-rock and “send up dem mofo hos”.
The lyrics are also in four quite clear categories: “That’s so right” (Cuniform, Falling On My Keys,
Carrot Stomach), “That’s so wrong (and broken)” (We Pray, Beer Off
The Ground), “What the…?”(Froghurt, Bite,
Gimme Gimme), and plain-old piss-funny (TNVN,
Sheeortz, Rock St¶rs).
The “Al (Mad Magazine) Jaffe School of Art” has
students in Fatigue (fat-eeg!), adding to the overall “we’re not that
serious but you should enjoy us anyway” presentation of “Does anyone want
anything up the shops?” on Pacemaker through Oracle Records. Tops!!
