Review – Bob Sledge “Do not run we are your friends”

Independent EP through High Beam Records

Stoner Rock Lives! Queens of the Stone Age brought things to a head with their “R Rated” album last year, and at about the same time a bunch of likely Wollongong lads were working on a series of releases under the name of Thumlock. Now, Southern Sydney 5-piece Bob Sledge, comprising former Christ Art Museum, Lime, Mudeye and Sharman’s Ride members, has their independent EP “Do not run we are your friends” distributed by stoner rock specialists High Beam Records, making them label-mates of the aforementioned Tarrawanna stoner rockers.

Fashioned as a creative release by a group of musical mates, Bob Sledge served a purpose of a mutually desired side project for ready committed musicians in need of artistic relief. That project soon gained support work for the likes of Nitocris, Tumbleweed and Front End Loader and the eight tracks on this record are testimony to that talent. And raves – no one has ill words to speak of this Soundgarden/Deep Purple/Kyuss

styled outfit that has me wanting to keep this copy rather than pass it on for addition on Rock & Roll Smorgasbord (John will love this one!) or Future Sounds.

Mere words are insufficient to encapsulate the effect of Bob Sledge on a fan of the True Rock. If only the old ears could withstand just another hour of this at 100db+…. Love that closing effect!!
