Review - Angels “Caught In The Night/Call That Living”
singles on Shock! Records
From
the band who invented pub rock in Australia comes their independant
debut after over 20 years and innumerable albums, singles and even more gigs.
This is the first release for Angels
on Shock! records and comes in the form of two discs.
The
first is “Caught In The Night”, a Hail Caesar (AC/DC)cum-No Secrets combo with all the hallmarks of another rock anthem
and Angels
“classic”. The second is already well-known to Angels
fans, being released last year to radio and gigs only, and on high
rotation on the rock stations: “Call That
Living” is another combo, this time of Shadow
Boxer, Dawn is Breaking and No Exit.
While
many of their now-anthems appear to be similar in sound and structure (in much
the same way as Status
Quo songs are/were, but that’s the only comparison in that
direction I will draw) this release seems to be revisiting the era (circa
1979-1980) that Angels
started playing with new melodies. But there’s nothing that will put
down a band who, even in acoustic mode, left my ears ringing for three days, or
reduce rotation on the Ms! ««««
