Review - Songsalive! 3
Compilation on Indigo Moon
Records
Songsalive! is a
non-profit organisation for the promotion and support of songwriters
world-wide. Based in Sydney and LA, their roster includes many artists in both
cities, as well other parts of Australia, the US and Europe, so far displayed
in the previous two releases.
“Songsalive! Sampler #3” is out and about
through the co-operative and members, and shows a definite penchant for the
AOR/synth-pop nouveau-R&B styles that are permeating our airwaves today. Delta
Goodrem, Pacifique, Lynda Wehipeihana, and Roxanne
Paladin have ventured forth with sounds akin to Whitney/Mariah/Celine
and/or Human Nature/CDB/Boyzone. Other offerings
include country (Bruce Wallis, Mick Gallagher, The Bootleg Bros),
traditional pop and ballads (Stephen Kieley, Lama Kisirwani, Evan
Biegel, Gilli Aliotti),
experimental - almost Lori Andersonesque (Megan
Lockyer), and more.
The best song on the whole record was Avatar Crash’s
straight-ahead rock contribution. Its exceptional production qualities, Real
Instruments, clean & polished sound and vocals rivaling any of the
oft-cited rock gods since Ian Gillan make it jump out and grab
the listener with both hands! Well done guys!!
Overall, “Songsalive! Sampler #3”
is not the best collection from the Songsalive! group to date. When you
keep bringing out the same voices and artists for compilations, you will fall
into a rut! Stephen, Roxanne, Bruce, Gilli
- give your spots on “Songsalive! Sampler
#4” to other members of the group!
