Review - Michael Fix “Breakup Breakdown/Heart of the Country/Rainy Day Blues”
single
on ABC through EMI
Michael Fix
is a guitarist whose abilities pale the better known of his peers. And not only
is he a maestro guitarist, his current single “Breakup Breakdown/Heart of the Country/Rainy Day Blues” on ABC through EMI features only two playing
personnel: Andrew the fiddler-mandolinist and Michael doing everything
else: guitars, bass, percussion, technology (keys, drum programs, engineering,
producing - the works!).
Musically,
this single explores three styles, with bluegrass on the lead track Breakup Breakdown, an acoustic
country-cum-soft rock/AOR feel on Heart
of the Country and a smoothe jazz/calypso-swing thing on Rainy Day Blues to close.
Michael’s
music is such that when you listen to or read his comments, you can hear what
he’s doing on the song, and conversely, when you’re listening to the song &
reading his comments, you feel his inspiration! He is a remarkable man and this
single highlights even more sides to him than “The
Heart Has Reasons” (1996) did. HHHH
