Review - Zelda Trip
self-titled independent EP
Zelda Trip would like you to know that they won’t be
going away in any great hurry. This 3-piece from Sydney’s inner-west are only
just out and about with their debut self-titled EP and planning the follow-up
release. It will have a fair bit to live up to, though, given the strength of
this outing!
Flowing through folk-rock/acoustica to
middle-eastern influences, from straight-up rock to a hat-tip to Led
Zeppelin in the closer, Zelda Trip exude an energy which is
only now being tapped. The songs on this EP seem formulaic but as so many
success stories have proven: when you’re on a good thing...
Today and Genuine are the standout tracks from this record, but the overall
exception is the Martha
(The
Motels) Davis/Deb Conway vocal style of Maria
Mitar that drives the whole effort. If the energy and emotion captured
on this debut is anything like what they recreate on stage, Zelda
Trip may be in the running for the Next Big Thing tag!
The band warn in their press that they will
be popping up as much as possible in the lead-up to the launch of their debut,
so catch them before they get too big. HHHHH
