Review - Youth Group “Country Tour”

single on Ivy League Records

Following generically in the footsteps of Custard’s first releases from “We Have The Technology” and the last couple from “Wisenheimer” comes the “Country Tour” single on Ivy League Records from Sydney’s Youth Group.

The brains behind the recent Welcome to Campbelltown tribute at the Lansdowne are obviously the same people behind the idea of this release. Having experienced Youth Group live in support of the aforementioned Brisbane-based super-alternagroup this is a complete turn-around from that spot. What we have on “Country Tour” is disappointing in respect of what we believe the band is capable: it’s almost lying down, it’s so laid back, and it’s a little too Narranderra for Newtown (country for the city) but I quite enjoyed the Skyhooks Smut feel of There’s Only One Way to Say I Love You.
