Review - Violent New Breed
'Demo 1' CD
Enter
the Violent
New Breed. Formed early in 2000 in Adelaide, vnb has its basis in Adrian
and J ‘going solo’ after playing in innumerous bands since the early 1990s. Now
with two extra members vnb has
its sights on a new release ‘Welcome 2001’ which is available on mp3.com.au
and until the official release (whenever that is) this is the best way to check
out the new sounds but not with the new singers yet.
So
until then, ‘Demo 1’ is all we have and this disc doesn’t hold the guys’
influences back in any way. There are three tracks on this disc which I have
termed Heavy Beat Techno but their pop-song lengths of 3-5 minutes each are
just screaming for the club treatment in remix terms! Whilst they list their
influences as Birmingham 6 and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult
and mp3.com.au
lists those bands as similar to vnb, you might also detect
some Underworld, Prodigy and Superheist
in the mix.
I
didn’t think I would enjoy this disc as much as I did – whilst Techno isn’t
quite my scene, Linda and the folk at FCK, with help from
the Rubber
staff and such acts as Paul Mac and 1200
Techniques may just turn me around! Violent
New Breed – keep an eye out!
