Review – Teddy Sexuals “The
Bear Essentials”
EP on Something In My Eye
through MGM/Phantom
Teddy Sexuals are one of the most entertaining and fun live
bands I have seen for quite some time. And after a year or two building a
fanatical following they are now able to give their fans something to take
home: “The Bear Essentials” - their debut EP
on Something In My Eye through MGM/Phantom.
As the name suggests, Teddy Sexuals are in it for the fun
alone and that fun has been captured on the five bouncy, boppy, feel-good songs that have
been lined up for this release. They include the apparent crowd-favourite You’re
Such A Pervert (That’s Why I Love You) and I Want to Have Sex With Your
Girlfriend, and Something You’re Not Telling Me also stands out
from the record. I can liken the overall presentation to Analog: that certain
pop-bent that will guarantee radio addition on either the Js and/or 96.1, but the smut-humour may be a little
dicey for the latter: their loss.
I stand by the statement in my
review of their CD launch back in December - there is an air of The Knack
about these guys already, which may or may not be a death-knell, but
there is also an almost-certain knowledge that the friends, family, and
so-called freaks that turned out on that night will continue to grow in number
for a good long time yet - HHHH
