Review - Swervedriver “These Times”

single on Cortex/SWD through Shock!

Brit-pop is eating itself! Bands who once had a definitive sound are now turing to the aural expressions of other British artists and adopting them as their own for an outing or two. Blur’s current single has Jarvis coming over all David Bowie, while “These Times”, Swervedriver’s new single on Cortex/SWD through Shock! sees the band taking an Oasis approach, both jingly-jangly and vocally.

Homeless Homecoming, recorded live at Sydney’s Metro in May this year is the ambience of the evening while the cover of T-Rex’s Chateau in Virginia Waters follows both the ambient suit and the 90s Brit-jingle to create yet another sonic experiment.

If you have the album “99th Dream”, grab this single as an example of where they’re going since then. For mine, however, the release is more an example of other people’s work than their own, and doesn’t do anyone any justice ««
