Review - Stroke "Internal Call"
Single on XL Recordings through Shock

There isn't much that can be said about this new British band Stroke that isn't in their biog or on the XL Recordings web site. "Internal Call" is the second single for this Brit 5 piece that seems to be the musical vehicle for self-styled benevolent dictator Jason.

The biog paints Stroke as yet-another noise-fest, with the warning in the first paragraph thereof that they "are about to interrupt your world with the force of an early morning letter bomb. Their carnal riot of sound, their raw-boned lyrics, everything about them is way off the deep end. The musical equivalent of what happens to a pressure cooker if you apply a lot of heat, keep the lid on tight, and turn your back." Nothing could be further from the truth! These guys use styles from every successful British act out of the last 10 years, from Stone Roses, Blur, Kula Shaker to Portishead, and non-British artists like Luna.

The album is due out late this year and should provide interesting listening to fans of these artists as well as punters looking for a new musical fascination.
