Review – Starky ‘Rock ‘n’Roll is the Devil’s Music’

Single on Phantom Records

With a sound younger than their look, Starky (the artist formerly known as Pennidredful) are back on the scene with thanks to the good folks at Phantom. This is their fourth release in as many years, the first on CD, but still no album!

The title track is not the initial grabber; rather a grower, but in the style of those acts you would have been able to see them with over the years, ergo Jebediah, Violetine, Knievel. The clip that accompanies this track was a prize on Channel V and I won’t be too surprised if it has or is soon to appear on the other programs, given the overall hook of the piece.

The CD is a three-track single, with track two, Pencil Sketch, featuring Brian (Golden Rough) Crouch on keys, a quiet little ditty, and the closer, She’s Gone, back to the foundation sound of the record.

I can hear it on the Js at this point, and maybe on local radio around the place, but not being a grabber like a good pop-release should be, it may or may not last very long.
