Review - Snog “buy me...I’ll change your life”

album on IMCC through Shock!

“buy me...I’ll change your life”, the cover promises from amid detached smiles and a platinum Snog logo...after the initial confusion over the single, I had hoped that Messrs Thrussel and co would be able to change something; hopefully that which can be said about this record

OK friend, the world’s going down the s-bend quite more rapidly than we would like, so what better thing to do than to remind us all of it in song! In a dour Nick Cave, Ghostwriters and Stan Ridgway meets Depeche Mode setting, there’s a sprinkling of guest vocals adding some colour and an up-feeling, some serious keys-&-guitar combos and a very solid rhythm base. But its the comic-relief lyrics that change the overall view of the record, especially in The Ballad, The Prole Song (thank you, V.People), Big Brother (thank you, G.Orwell), This is Capitalism (thank you P.Anka & F.Sinatra)...

One question is answered - Snog is all about twisting song around to sound like something completely different. Overall, they are a quasi-serious TISM with multiple lyrical and musical influences and more/better technology. But it isn’t that serious, mum! There are other ways to look at life than this way. OK - so it has changed my life, a little bit, but I+T=R? HH¾
