Review - Snog “...make the little flowers grow...”

single on IMCC through Shock!

At the end of the second mix, a drummier version of the original, I was at the same loss as at the end of the first. Snog’s ...make the little flowers grow... tells us all that no matter who or what we are, we’re all gonna be making those little daisies go up (sorry Dean and Gene). But giving a meaningful description of or trying to categorise the song/s defies everything: it’s one of those you have to hear for yourself! A new vibe, a new sound, just a little strange, brassy, different! And so far lacking in airplay because of this.

The spacecat digs deeper mix contains maybe a line or two from the opening verse around a whole other technological reworking, while the TDM says “please don’t grow” mix features another line from elsewhere in the song around something else entirely. So to answer the question “What is Snog?” With the song ...make the little flowers grow... would leave one none the wiser.

But Wait! There’s More! Sultans of Sleaze is an electronic instrumental thing, setting a mechanical “Metropolis” mood; Report from the Iron Mountain is an electro-techno-eastern classical loop, and The Dying Man - live at One Eyed Jack’s sets a sombre full-banded Western sound to close

Where has Snog come from? Where are they going? What the hell are they on about? Just what is I+T=R? All these questions and more should be answered, hopefully, with “buy me...I’ll change your life...”, the album, but until then: ???
