Review - Pre_shrunk
“subchakra”
single on Phantom Records
Pre_shrunk have been very busy since
the release of “soundpimp”.
Playing since August with the likes of silverchair
and Placebo and the
now-famous Turn Up Your Radio gigs around the country, they have only a day
between finishing up one tour and starting up their own. And if the initial
release doesn’t get the punters out to check out the shows, “subchakra”
definitely will.
There’s six tracks on “subchakra”,
each of which continue to redefine groove-oriented music. Where “soundpimp”
was a bass-on-bass with vocals added, “subchakra” carries on in an
instrumental vein which will prove just as popular on the trance dance floors
as on the Js in either regular,
request or dance programming. From the 3:14 of Hot Robots to the 10:41
electronic opus Decelerate that is enough to rival anything Kraftwerk
or the likes can create, Pre_shrunk sets
new boundaries for bass-oriented music, as if they hadn’t already.
