Review - Orange “Johnny
Speed”
independent single
I was introduced to Orange by Jo at the Future
Sounds radio show way back when the band Kurt and Ben
were first pushing their “Whiff”
EP. I happened upon them live for the first time at their last gig for ’99 and
there I found out about this single. “Johnny Speed” is doing great
things for them across the country and there’s no wonder – it’s a pearler!
It’s been a while since I heard “Whiff”
but hearing it live the other night brought back all those perfect-pop/rock
tunes and Johnny Speed, the set closer for the night, showed why radio
stations and TV shows have decided to add it to rotation (one of them have put
it on high rotation!). Following as the B-side is Moonlighting is a
quieter, more-acoustic number which would be ideal as a set-filler… the one a
band always plays to bring the energy down a little before they pump things up
for the end of the night.
Either track would be great on radio but Johnny
seems to be more typical of what Orange
are about both in the studio and on stage. Catch them soon! ««««
