Review - Mr Brown “Gooda”
EP on Blah Blah Blah records
For a good many of us, “Liar Liar” was the first thing dealt up by Melbourne
power-pop/rock trio Mr Brown. Here, though, is the follow-up EP “Gooda” on Blah Blah Blah Records. With
airplay on the new-music stations and addition to the late-night video shows,
this record is following closely in the success of earlier this year.
“Gooda” flows well through short
sharp pop Elvis
Costello meets You
Am I + Screamfeeder
bursts of Women (are the greatest things
on earth), Getting Old and the
closer Won’t Do It Anymore. In
between, other aural experiments include a not as short and sharp mix of Fauves,
You
Am I, Beatles
and Lenny
Kravitz with the aforementioned Mr
McManus on I Do Hurt, and the familiar
quasi-ballad-with-a-twist Soap.
These guys deliver a power-packed live show
but on disc, while it’s still powerful, it’s quite another thing again. Plans
are afoot to re-release their album of 1997, which will hopefully include
selections of this and previous EPs and singles. That can’t be a bad thing ««««¶
