Beggars Banquet/Cortex through Shock!
Luna introduce us to their fourth album by way of a five-track mostly-live untitled EP on Beggars Banquet/Cortex through Shock! The collection opens with the album track “Tracy I Love You”, a jingly and slide-guitar piece in a style where Chris Isaak meets REM. The rest of the record features live recordings for Santa Monica’s KCRW from last year and REV109 late in 1996, including their mid-rotation Triplej hit IHOP and a cover of the early-70s smash Everybody’s Talkin’ which featured a mood-altering kazoo-solo...
Luna display a wide-ranging sound on this EP, including Lou Reed/Velvet Underground, Stone Roses and Bob Dylan. The overall feel is deep, dark and moody, which is picked up along the way with dashes of humour, including the aforementioned kazoo break and the now-famous opening lines to IHOP.
