Review - Lunar Sea Boatmen
"The Uncrossing"
album demo for Hell Records
Ian Purdie and the Lunar Sea Boatmen have
decided to follow 1997's "Greetings
Earthlings" album with a 6-track EP "The
Uncrossing" on Hell Records.
The new record includes their aspirant Olympic anthem Reaching Higher,
which has all the hallmarks every other Olympic
theme - the inspirational lyrics and the ability to be transferred onto those
cheesy Westcoast nouveau-pop keyboard effects that always seem to go with these
songs.
The features of "The
Uncrossing" include Prue Rueben's Deb Conway styled vocals,
which stand out best in Narcissus and
Evolve!! and Gino Porto's Rex
Goh (Roy &
HG/Brothers of Oz) riffs in Daytime Nightmare, and Ian's
Les Paulings
on Interplanetary Mary.
Overall, this release is not just another "Greetings Earthlings"
but a move in the direction of Adult-oriented radio, which should find an
audience on many of the like-minded stations across Australia. Lunar Sea Boatmen "The Uncrossing"
