Review - Lixivius demo
The name Lixivius is one
that pops up literally everywhere around Sydney… on sound desks, posters, and
lavs in venues from the Bat and
Ball to the HRC.
They must be doing something right in order to be getting all these rooms, and
when you finally catch up with them you’re greeted by two guys, three girls and
a rather eclectic show that includes guitars, drums, brass and a didge!
It’s something that might take a bit of
getting used to, so to encourage you to do just that they have put together a
tape of four songs that cover a rock, folk, ska assortment. The tape is not
titled, save for their name on the side and faintly on the top right-hand
corner of the insert. There is no track listing and, when given the tape, the
rhythm guitarist/vocalist/band leader Willie wasn’t too sure of what was
on it either.
Suffice is to say, though, that most of the
eclecticism and energy of a live Lixivius show is captured
in these four tracks on this particular copy of the tape, and if you like what
you hear on your copy, check out a gig (which is probably how you got the tape
in the first place) and keep a hold of it until the official EP comes out! «««
