Review – Leadlight “Who
Loves Ya Baby?”
independent EP
Some CDs nowadays come with very little to no
information about the band next to that which the band has written on the
sleeve of the CD. Leadlight
“Who Loves Ya Baby?” is one such record, but from what I
understand of the project it is one by Mr Nick Danta (I kept
reading Dalton!)
and friends.
That list of friends is as impressive as any
that is accompanied by a full and glossy bio, including TJ Eckleberg, Marshall (DGSS) Cullen and Tim (tyg) Powles. But the
CD itself takes a little getting used to. It’s an almost-eclectic,
almost-acoustic, laid back, collection of songs that combine the sounds of Richard Clapton, Chris
de Burgh, The Models, Tony Orlando,
David Beniuk, Custard, Floyd Vincent, Ian
(Lunarsea Boatmen)
Purdie, among others I’m sure. It’s this breadth scope and the
production standards that in an EP rival many albums, done in a style similar
to Elliot Smith
(big on the Js) and
Wollongong poet/laureates Stephen
Robinson and David
Beniuk.
Leadlight “Who Loves Ya Baby?” independent EP: remarkable
in its depth of repertoire but not outstanding and definitely not bad.
