Review – Juggernaut “Million Miles from Home”

Single on Phantom Records

Back in the mid 90s, when a music magazine of the same name was up and coming, so too was the music venture of two brothers Armanath and Krishna Jones. With a funk vibe akin to Skunkhour-du-jour, Juice were doing their thing and doing it very well. But then the demise, or disappearance, and nothing more was heard or said until the release of “Million Miles from Home” by Phantom Records from a band called Juggernaut which is fronted by those two Jones brothers.

Gone are the thumping, writhing tempos, replaced by a blues-rock muse with a pop leaning (especially in the lead track), found on the stage with bands like Mother Cat and Orange. Million Miles rocks along an electric-guitar bed over driving rhythm and is as far removed from Juice as one would get. But the B-sides are less electric, more acoustic: inclusive of a harp here and there, an upright bass, a slide dobro, vocal harmonies for added depth, and that-something-extra that the brothers’ experience overseas has added to this collection.

I’m sure the guys could give you the lo-down on what Juice was all about but from this record, that’s all so far behind them now. Time has moved on and so have they. Juggernaut “Million Miles from Home” on Phantom Records - HHH
