Froghollow seven-track
demo CD
When I first skipped
over this CD I was not impressed. The recording was poor and that, for mine,
renders the rest of the tracks not worth trying to listen to. But later, quite
by accident, I found that I had put some of the tracks on my Windows Media
Player (purely for listening purposes only – once the review is done and disc
passed on the copy is wiped, so don’t come all Copyright Act on my ass!) and
was surprised by my favourable reaction thereto.
Froghollow is a four-piece alterna-rock outfit from an area south of Sydney more famous for its other philanthropic pub-rocker / vodka-swiller-turned-dinosaur. Their press tells of sets which grew from endless incarnations of Cream songs to include music as diverse as The Modern Lovers, The Velvet Underground, The Beatles, Steppenwolf, The Cure and Joy Division intermingled into their own stuff.
This diversity is expressed in the seven tracks that appeared on the first demo I was sent. They describe their sound as psychedelic acid rock, very 60s with a hint of 70s/80s style punk and mod. With influences like the aforementioned, you could hardly help not to be! So pop by their site, follow the link to the downloads and check them out – maybe even come to a gig when they play your local soccer club!
