Review - Front End Loader “Last of the V8 Interceeptors”

album on Shagpile through Shock!

“That’s better!” was the sigh that greeted the opening stanzae of “Last of the V8 Interceptors”, the 7th release (2nd album) for Sydney genre-crossers Front End Loader.

Obviously ones for avoiding pigeon-holes at any cost, this 16-track marvel pales my poor personal introduction (Pulse the single’s B-sides) into less-than insignificance. Lyrically intelligent and very musically diverse, I’d lay money on this record being keenly received by those that matter at the Jays and becoming album of the week by month’s end. That is if they get to it through the crap they already force us to endure.

High-rotation choices include the single, Time & Inclination, You Think That’s Bad, and Mighty Mighty Straight. Personal standouts include the pisstake on the aforementioned state of Australian radio and venues performed by Andy, Stu and Gordon Summer Hits, as well as 4 Star Heritage Arsehole, Life Without Rock-boy and That’s All.

Not a dog among ‘em - see you at the next gig, Steve!
