Review - Doradus “Watch This
Space”
CD EP on Stunt Pram/Troy
Horse through MDS
I first heard Doradus
on Future Sounds’ recent edition
of Big Back Yard (I think it was Fire
Away) and was quite surprised to learn that it is not only hard rock and
grunge that comes from Newcastle!
I was then given a copy of their debut EP “Watch
This Space” on Stunt Pram/Troy Horse through MDS.
The
Superjesus, Baby Animals,
Rebecca’s
Empire, Pearly
Gatecrashers, XTC (in
the intro to Cut It Fine) and other
sounds/influences permeate the hard pop-rock produced by Rachel Rose, Darren
Rowe, and Guru. Hailing from near-enough-to-beachside Newcastle,
they have a commercial edge that will take them beyond the backyard (be it big
or otherwise), if they stick to their guns. Based on this outing, there is no
reason why they won’t be.
This record has been around for a while - I’m only sorry I hadn’t heard of them
earlier. I am certain that this HHHHH debut will be the start of
something for Doradus
