Review - diana Ah naid “Oh No”

single on Origin Records through mDs

Oh No, a new single from diana Ah naid... no, that’s not the reaction: how could anyone react that way to another song from this Northern NSW songstress? It’s different to what we’ve had from “I Go Off” and is the herald for her forthcoming second album on Origin Records through mDs.

“Oh No (a curb side lullaby)” was originally a guitar-harmonics driven angst-ridden tune in the tradition of the smash debut, the original demo version of which appears here as the closing track. The song has since benefited hugely from the addition of an up-beat band and a bit of technology, all thanks to Daniel (Max Sharam, Frente, The Cruel Sea) Denholm, but the angst remains the same. The instrumental track is the edited dance-version that may or may not appear in full on another EP with a vocal track, while Make It Begin sits at Track 2 as a quiet almost latin-lounge piano-&-percussion ballad.

With over 50 songs to choose from, Mr Denholm had his task set at creating a new sound from those harmonic discords and emotive lyrics. Time, and the folk at Origin/mDs, will tell HHHH
