Review – Crawlspace “Motion”
single on Rocket Records
through Phantom Music
Crawlspace is a name that has been
around for not a short time, making it as big as their home of Perth WA will
allow, with rotation and appearances on the Js
and Ms, Hey Hey, 96.1, Hot
FM, and V. But now is the time to
make it bigger still with their fifth release in two years “Motion” on
Rocket through Phantom
Music.
You’d never know Crawlspace were from
Perth to listen to them – bands like Jebediah,
Flanders, Turnstyle, Eskimo Joe have
been coming out of the West over the last few years, establishing what I term
as the Westralian sound: quirky, poppy, but somehow unique. On “Motion”
the single, Crawlspace
have leapt out of that mould and create sounds that have been coming in and out
of the East coast alternative scene for the same length of time: Utopian Babies, FiniScad
and You
Am I as better examples.
Crawlspace have quoted expat WA artists like InXS, Hoodoo Gurus, Mark Lizotte aka Diesel as their benchmark - these artists have made it big on a national and/or international basis, but Crawlspace are set to reset that mark in no uncertain terms.
