Review - Bunt “Art Girl”

independent single/EP

Bunt are four guys from Sydney’s inner-western suburbs with a simple underground-style 60s punk as their vehicle. Their “Girl Art” EP (almost a single with not even 12 minutes on) sets out fairly unobtrusively and pretty much stays there.

The style of this release takes on a number of shades: Shonen Knife without the pop but with an edge; Ricaine, but not that hard; 60s garage with simple riffs and a 90s attitude; Loud Reed/Kirk (The Early Hours) Pohl vocals; foot a-tappin head a-noddin ambience. Ugly Girls is the one standout track from these four.

Based on this recording, Bunt is not a band that would incite a feverish obsession to seek out dates, and their gigs might be a low-key small venue/crowd but hey! If there’s a market for that...HH
