Review - Brotherhood Lush “Milk”
EP on Blush Music
Launched recently at the Hard Rock Café with
names like Roxanne Paladin,
Neil
Murray and gilli moon,
Brotherhood Lush have
introduced themselves to the world through a six-track EP “Milk” (which they call and have priced as an album), independantly
on Blush
music.
Consistantly opens the account in the
vein of unknown but excellent ex-band Chapter, with the David
(Aladdin Sane) Bowie-cum-Guns
& Roses sound, especially in Ben’s vocals and Eye’s
Ibie-through-a-Fender
sounding very Les-Paul-through-a-Vox!
Seasick is a funky rocker with
heavily distorted bass intro; nice clean drum sounds from the red kit, and an excellent
Paigesque
lead break. The Led
Zeppelin influence continues avec mandolin with a G’n’R
flavour through Gave Way, a slower
paced thing letting us know that to say “no” may result in the other party
waiting around just the same. Mesmerised
has a Spanish rock feel with that WA
sound (to be heard on any Western Australian compilation), and excellent
guitar work in the middle-8 akin to Steve
Howe on Queen’s Innuendo. The 80s cock-rock vocals (Jon/Bon
Jovi, G’n’R,
etc) return on Pain Generation with
solid driving rhythms & riffs, while the closer, Light Shine gives a live-in-a-café feel initially, complete with
mandolin and Crash Test Dummies vocals.
A great debut showing heaps of promise - Ben’s
multi-faceted vocals and Eye’s guitar sounds will travel!!
But $16 for an EP is far too much...HHHI - Death is never an option
